Should history repeat then the newly elected government of Australia may suffer the same consequences, running int a severe recession/depression that the newly elected government of 1929 did.

One thing I notice is how the morning commute is actually improving. This happened during the 2001 recession as well. Ironically, politicians are pushing hard for freeway expansions just as demand is slackening.
