From '29 Start to '07 Finish, Hotel Is Peak Experience

The big showpiece hotel is back. The area is just alive with everyone so excited about how the good times are here again.  – Subscriber and West Baden, Indiana native on the return of the West Baden Springs Hotel to its 1920s glory.
Socio Times, June 20, 2007

new marriottI thought I would send you something of local Socionomic significance. The Renaissance Providence Hotel in Providence was just completed.  The building is a Greek Revival style and was originally intended to be Masonic temple.  However, construction was halted in 1929 and the building has been COMPLETELY abandoned for roughly 75 years.  It's right in the middle of the city, a block away from the state capital building. A beautiful stone yet graffiti laden façade, it was too expensive for the city to complete construction and too expensive to tear it down. Seems that these super luxury structures are no big deal when we're at peaks.

The last vestiges of Supercycle V are finally finishing some of the very same real estate projects Supercycle III failed to finish or sustain. On June 20, we covered the strong collective urge to remake a lavish 1920s resort in the unlikely locale of West Baden, Ind.

In Providence, the same high ebb in enthusiasm for property is behind the completion of the Renaissance Providence. Every peak is different, but these projects reveal that the current affinity for real estate is an extremely tight fit with the euphoria of 1929.  The even higher, Grand Supercycle, degree of the peak, says that the corresponding collapse will be more damaging than that of the 1930s.
